Student Review

I set out to the rotation with a goal to improve my efficiency in the private practice setting. Making sure to not sacrifice accuracy in an easier refractive exam. I was beyond blown away with the amount of variability of cases that I came across. I expected to see only refractive cases and instead I saw a HUGE variety of disease, urgent care visits and dry eye cases. This practice is advanced in their treatment and management of various diseases. I learned about the idea of dark adaptometry in the management and monitoring of AMD. Due to this practices affiliation with the local hospital, they received any and all emergency referrals from the ER department. They also have a very advanced dry eye clinic where special ocular surface work up visits are used to assess the full extent of dry eye and provide a specialized treatment regimen including Mibo treatments, punctal occlusion, low level light therapy and more. This was my favorite rotation of all. This was by far the most comprehensive and inclusive practice I have ever been to. I am grateful for my experience here. I know that this practice has a reputation for being challenging but I think its more so because people expect private practice primary care to be easy and straight forward. This site had more disease than some of my ocular disease sites. Expect to be challenged, but I promise it is worth it. Effort and confidence and willingness to learn from mistakes earns respect here.
