Arrival procedure for students:
Dr. Kerns will contact students 1 month prior to rotation with instructions. On your first day, plan on being at the Battle Creek VA for in-processing in the morning at 8:00am, Building 24 – Room 111. Once you are done there, you will drive to the Wyoming VA Healthcare Center and have computer training and orientation. Please bring your equipment with you that first day as we may have you see patients in the afternoon.
Because the VA is part of the Federal Government, there are several requirements that you will need to complete prior to the start of your rotation.
We have created a website that contains step-by-step instructions, timelines, forms and contact information for you to utilize to complete your pre-rotation requirements. There is also a general email address to use to contact the Battle Creek VA WOC (Without Compensation) Team should you have any questions:
The website can be found at http://www.battlecreek.va.gov/careers/HR_WOC.asp.
The contact email address for the WOC Team is VHABACWOCTeam@va.gov
Please go to the above website and complete all of the necessary steps.

Student Review
I learnt so much from this site. I got to see many retinal diseases with a lot of glaucoma patient and was able to monitor their progression. All the doctors here were very helpful and knowledgeable. They make sure you learn a lesson from every patient you encounter even if it was an easy patient. You learn how analyze OCT and visual field from a doctor’s point of view not a student.

"My expectations for this rotation were met and exceeded. I was hesitant going into the VA as I knew it had a reputation for moving a lot of patients in and out. This site exceeded my expectations because I was able to see many patients without feel rushed in my clinical decision making. I was blown away by all the good doctors and learning experiences. This rotation was awesome! I learned so much and really worked on my efficiency."
