Description

Full service Primary Care Optometry site with an emphasis on Ocular Pathology/disease. This is a hospital sized clinic with onsite primary and specialty care, lab, radiology, and pharmacy services.  It serves American Indian and Alaska Native patients in a rural, underserved setting.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Become comfortable seeing a high volume of patients. 

2. Become comfortable seeing diabetic patients with complex medical histories.

3. Become comfortable with the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease.

Arrival procedure for students:

The student should contact the chief of optometry prior to the first day for specific instructions.


I like students to contact me any time with any questions. I want to hear from the students approximately 2 weeks prior to their arrival by phone or email. Up-to-date shots (Hep,TD, T.B-,MMR/TITER) letter of good standing from ICO, fingerprints/ background investigation.


Orientation occurs during the first week.  There will be formal orientation activities during one day with other items completed by the student.

Please describe the housing availability or stipend:

JRCOSTEP program with housing allowance. Housing cost is $400- 600. Student is responsible for locating own housing, however the facility is able to assist students in securing housing. Housing is 23 miles.(1/2 hr. drive) Students accepted by the JRCOSTEP will receive a housing allowance and a monthly stipend. ** The JRCOSTEP PROGRAM IS A FEDERALLY FUNDED PROGRAM THAT IS DEPENDENT ON FUNDING AVAILABILITY.
