We are the only private practice in the county which makes us an important part of our local health care team. Our geography puts us one to two hours away from ophthalmology at any given day which allows us to co-manage many eye diseases and surgeries. We are rural but unique in that we have many different languages in the community where we have a majority Spanish speakers. Being able to do an exam in a second language is very beneficial. We like the business of optometry as much as practicing medical optometry. I would look forward to sharing business techniques and financial scenarios within the office.
Objectives
1. I would want students to get comfortable with managing emergency eye conditions and getting referrals from local family medical providers and ER.
2. Have them get experience with co-management of different surgeries.
3. I want them to know the basics of getting through an exam while speaking some Spanish.
4. I want them to get the basics of business within private practice - looking over profit loss statements, etc.

We are a very busy rural private practice that provides top notch medical care and technology to the community. We have a diverse population that presents many different and challenging I conditions. We work closely with other medical providers in the area.
The student would have their own independent schedule and help manage post op patients and emergency office visits.
