During your rotation at the VA Medical Center your primary responsibility will be to provide direct patient care. You will be providing comprehensive primary and secondary eye care to the veteran population in a multidisciplinary setting. Your first responsibility is to provide each veteran with the highest quality and most expedient level of care possible. You are also expected to broaden your knowledge and understanding of patient management and treatment through diverse exposure to multiple ocular and systemic conditions. You will have the opportunity to utilize and sharpen many of the skills taught in optometry school and are expected to seek out occasions to participate in new experiences. You will also participate in journal club, conferences, and lunch & learn sessions, along with preparing and delivering your own presentations on clinical care.

Student Review
"This was a great and very challenging site. I feel like I had the opportunity to really work on my ocular disease and low vision knowledge. The doctors give you a lot of freedom and treat you as a doctor, rather than a student. Since it is a VA, you have the ability to order additional testing if needed and really treat the patients to the fullest extent. You also work with many different doctors, which is nice because you get to experience differing ideas of treatment and management for diseases. Every Thursday morning, there are presentations by the doctors or residents. You also have to do 2 presentations during your time here."
