Our objective is to foster development in the following categories:

Clinical skills, including case history, documentation, anterior/posterior segment evaluation, gonioscopy
-
Diagnosis including interpretation/analysis of clinical findings, visual fields and OCT
-
Management including spectacles, medications, referrals, appropriate follow up and practice standard of care
-
Patient communication
Students will have the opportunity to observe cataract, oculoplastic and glaucoma surgeries.

Arrival procedure for students:
On first day, students will obtain a VA badge and orientation from our facility education coordinator. The afternoon consists of intro to staff, clinic and equipment including a review of VAIHCS student externship guide and policies.
On first day, report to the eye clinic located in Building 98, 2nd floor.
Paperwork to be completed and turned into VA at least 45 days prior to rotation.
Fingerprinting must be completed no more than 120 days prior to starting rotation and no less than 30.
This must be done at a VA Medical Facility. Two forms of ID are required (one being a photo). At Danville, schedule an appointment using the scheduling tool found at www.va-piv.com. This office is located in Building 102, Room 117J. For questions regarding their appointment, they should call the following numbers: (217) 554-3691 or (217) 554-5953. If going to another facility present these codes (SOI: VA 96, SON: 1224) when getting printed to ensure the background check results are sent to Danville.

Shared, co-ed, no cost housing available. Free parking, 8 shared bedrooms, 2 bath, single kitchen, washer and dryer, a/c, heating and wifi. Can move in the weekend prior to start of rotation.
