The Vision Therapy Center is a specialty clinic with two locations providing optometric vision therapy and visual rehabilitation to patients of all ages. Externs can expect a vision therapy experience quite different from what’s typical of ICO. Encounters include adults with brain injuries or strabismus; children with learning related vision problems, strabismus/amblyopia, and other functional vision problems; individuals with special needs and preschoolers with strabismus/amblyopia. We are passionate about helping people perform better in life by improving their visual function!
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Externs will gain confidence and skill in evaluating and managing functional vision problems including binocular, accommodative, ocular motility and visual perceptual issues. They will approach special cases of strabismus, amblyopia, brain injury, special needs and very young children with confidence.
2. Externs will gain understanding of the impact of functional vision problems on quality of life through direct care experiences with patients in various stages of treatment as well as following patients for the quarter.
3. Externs will be able to apply principles learned in our specialty practice in a primary care setting especially principles of functional lens prescribing, ergonomic tips and simple optometric vision therapy techniques.

Student Review
"Great educational experience. I was able to see the full extent of what vision therapy is able to offer to people. Lots of experience dealing with strabismus and amblyopia. I was able to build up my confidence in administering and better understanding perceptual skills testing.
Overall, you learn a whole new approach to Vision Therapy outside the classical model we learn in school. If going into developmental Vision Therapy is your ultimate goal, this site gives you great exposure. However, be prepared to spend most of your time observing and pre-testing. "
