Description
We are a multi -subspecialty medical/surgical eye care clinic, focused on secondary and tertiary eye care wherein a majority of the patients are co-managed with local primary care optometrists. Our staff consists of 2 residency OD’s, 2 fellow ship trained vitreo-retinal specialists, 1 fellowship trained corneal specialist and 1 general ophthalmologist. Students will be scheduled for at least 1 day of surgical observation in our ambulatory surgery center with each of our surgeons to provide a broad experience of in-person surgical observation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Externs will see a broad range of ocular pathologic presentations, both in clinic and in surgery, many at high volume, leading to greater confidence and comfort recognizing and managing these entities.
Externs will see effective and efficient co-management with a broad network of referring optometrists, increasing their confidence and acumen in determining when and how best to refer medical and surgical patients they will see in their own practices.
Externs will attain improved overall clinical competence in efficient exam performance and interpersonal as well as inter-professional education.

Student Review
"I was truly amazed and grateful for my experience at this practice. The ODs and the OMDs were great mentors and clinicians. The high volume of patients examined at this site provided me with an unbelievable amount of confidence and experience in managing and treating ocular disease. The doctors at this site wanted me to be accurate and confident in clinical findings, assessment, and plan. If given the option, I would select this location for more than one rotation because of the excellent experience that I had."
