Description
Summit Eye Care is a two location, four doctor (1 MD, 3 OD) practice in the Milwaukee area. We specialize in medical eye care with a focus on the latest surgical and diagnostic technologies. We are proud of our state of the art facilities and provide high level medical care with emphasis on refractive cataract surgery, anterior segment pathology and glaucoma.
Summit Eye Care specializes in medical eye care. Most of our patients have some degree of ocular disease (Diabetes and Glaucoma especially). We would like our students to show excitement for a true full-scope optometric experience. Our hope is that students will leave this rotation with a better understanding of cataract surgery- each student will observe surgery for at least one day during their rotation with Dr. Vukich. Students will become very proficient managing post-operative patients. We have two locations, each with a different focus. Our Wauwatosa clinic is where we do most pre-surgical evaluations as well as specialty diagnostic testing. Our Menomonee falls clinic is more for exams and medical management- both are fully equipped with OCT, HVF, Topographer, and IOL Master. We also have plans to integrate Lipiflow soonto better address ocular surface disease.
Time will be split between Wauwatosa and Menomonee Falls.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Gain comfort providing eye care in a fully integrated medical eye care facility.
2. Become proficient in managing pre- and post-operative patients. We complete a significant number of premium IOL cataract surgeries in addition to other refractive procedures. We would like our students to gain comfort discussing surgical options while understanding the general surgical procedure. Students will routinely see patients the day after surgery.
3. Gain confidence in clinical decision making. We would like our students to become proficient in using OCT, topography, and visual field testing in order to properly manage pathology and prepare for surgical procedures.
