Description
New for 2023-2024***; discontinued after selections.
Russell Eyecare & Associates is a private practice offering primary care exams and is widely a referral base for neuro-visual rehabilitation for post-concussion/stroke patients. Recently with our new doctor, we have an increase in referrals for patients with developmental disabilities, visual processing deficiencies, and binocular vision dysfunction.
In primary care, students will encounter patients with a wide range of ocular disease conditions as their schedule will consist of patients coming in for their comprehensive eye exam, office visits, or follow ups for conditions such as glaucoma, macula degeneration, etc. They will work with certified vision therapists weekly and shadow ophthalmologist monthly. Based on student interest, the student’s schedule may be tailored to be able to work more closely with either Dr. Nguyen or DR. Russel on more complex cases for patients who suffer from conditions including but not limited to strokes, concussions, developmental delay, amblyopia, strabismus, infant exams, and binocular vision disorders. We so do ERG and VEP diagnostic testing on site that is preferred often for many patients.
Objectives:
1. Strengthen the student’s expertise in the diagnosis and management of refractive, physiological, and pathological conditions of the eye, adnexa, visual pathways and central nervous system.
2. Enhance the student’s examination skills in optometric primary care with an emphasis on neuro-visual disorders.
3. Expand the students’ knowledge of binocular and developmental vision problems as well as develop student’s expertise in vision therapy activities and how to apply them to a wide variety of patients.
