Description

Learning Objectives:

  1. Student will develop skills in full scope primary care optometry, including contact lens fittings/follow up care and management of complications for all contact lens modalities (soft, GP, bifocal, keratoconus, post-graft, specialty cosmetic).
     

  2. Students will develop their knowledge and skill in the treatment and management of ocular disease; develop skills in interpretation of VF’s, OCT, HRT, topography, fundus photography, optomap and slit lamp photography.
     

  3. Students will gain experience in punctal plugs, dilation & irrigation, foreign body removal, epilation, and surgical pre- and post-op care.
     

  4. Students will be exposed to practice management including: billing/coding, medical and routine reimbursements, profit and loss statements and monthly staff meetings with a practice consultant.

Arrival procedure for students:

Student should contact Dr. Wiggins 2 weeks prior to start of rotation. First day will be orientation and observation.
