Description
Discontinued prior to 06/2021.
Omni Eye Services seeks to provide high quality medical and surgical care to the patients of our referring doctors through the services of sub-specialty trained ophthalmic surgeons and highly experiences optometric physicians. We will not offer any primary eye care services. We will also strive to be an educational and political supporter of the profession of optometry through ongoing undergraduate and postgraduate education regarding the treatment and management of eye diseases.
Externs who select this rotation are expected to be highly motivated to acquire knowledge in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. They are required to read extensively, and to develop a strong knowledge base in the area of ocular pharmacology and its applications. You are obligated to work two half day Saturday post-ops and will spend 1 day each observing cataract/glaucoma surgery, refractive surgery, strabismus and retina surgery.
A car is necessary as students will rotate between the five NJ locations (Edison Park, Iselin, Parsippany, Rochelle Park, and West Orange) and 1 NY location (Manhattan)

Student Review
"I had an amazing time at Omni I learned a great deal about retina, oculoplastics, and pre and post operative care for cataract and glaucoma surgery. It was very beneficial to work with both ophthalmologists and optometrists. Omni is a very fast paced nonstop working environment, some days we had 200 patients scheduled so be ready to always be on your feet. You will learn a lot if you put the effort into it, creating your own assessment and plan for patients and confirming it with the doctors you work with. Do not be afraid to ask as many questions as you would like as everyone at Omni is very friendly and willing to take the time out to teach you. Each Monday there is a retina conference which is mandatory to attend and also other CE courses which you can attend throughout the rotation which are very informational."
