Description

VA eye clinic where externs practice optimal eye care in an advanced clinical and educational setting. The extern will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team and their ability to diagnose and manage ocular disease and the ophthalmic manifestation of systemic disease will be enhanced

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1.To strengthen the externs optometric skills and train the extern in advanced competencies in ocular disease and secondary eye care, placing emphasis on the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease, and ophthalmic side effects of systemic medications.

2.To expose the externs to interdisciplinary healthcare in an ambulatory environment.

3.To develop the externs contribution to optometric education and research through didactic and scholarly activities.

Arrival procedure for students:

Elsa Eddins (elsa.eddins@va.gov) will reach out with onboarding instructions. 


Contact Dr. Vejabul at least one month prior to beginning the rotation. Arrive at 7:30 am and check in with the Eye Clinic Secretary prior to Orientation.

Students are expected to be in clinic 30 minutes prior to the start of clinic. 


Externs rotate between 2 schedules: 

  • regular clinic: M-F (7:30 am - 4:00 pm)

  • extended clinic: T-F (9:30 am - 6:00 pm) and Saturday (8:30 am - 5:00 pm)
