Description
NEW FOR 2025-2026
ESA, with main offices located in Bettendorf, Iowa, and Rock Island, IL provides ophthalmology and optometry to the Quad Cities in a private practice setting. Six optometrists and 10 ophthalmologists offer a complete range of medical and surgical eye care including optical and hearing services to patients of all ages.
We are the largest practice between Iowa City and the western suburbs of Chicago. For 40 years, this physician-owned private practice has had the majority of the market share of a 500,000 person metro area. We have 10 board-certified ophthalmologists with fellowship-trained subspecialists in glaucoma, pediatrics, LASIK, cornea and refractive eye care and 6 highly skilled Optometrists. We perform nearly 100,000 patient visits per year and over 6,000 surgical cases, most of which are done in our surgeon-owned ASC. Our optical department offers the latest fashion and lens technology. Support staff and administrative staff of approximately 150 include an orthoptist, optometric and ophthalmic assistants, technicians, and opticians.
Our goal for the students is to provide them with a customized educational experience involving all aspects of care from primary eye care to complex eye pathology. Time will be spent working up patients, shadowing doctors in the clinic and observing surgeries if desired.
1. Exposure to as much ocular disease as possible to help identify and manage ocular pathology along with seeing primary eye care patients.
2. Exposure to the collaborative nature of a MD/ OD practice
3. Learn about all aspects of private practice eye care including billing and coding along with how to deliver eye care to patients in the most efficient way possible
