Student Review

"Excellent educational experience. You will encounter many different eye conditions that we don't typically see at the IEI (ie. polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy). In addition to primary care, you can choose 2 areas of ocular disease to rotate through, such as vitreo-retina, cornea, eye & nose, etc. Primary care is also a great learning opportunity since you will get a lot of exposure to fitting contact lenses for keratoconus or ortho-K.

Overall educational experience was amazing. I was able to see every type of disease A-Z. However because of the language barrier I wasn't able to understand some of the patient education. Housing was very hard. I had to ask other students from the hospital to help me find housing because of the language barrier. If you aren't able to arrange housing prior to arrival, will need to stay at a hotel for a few days while you are looking. And be prepared to pay in full, upfront.

Get a Chinese SIM card! Also, though not required, it's advisable to speak Mandarin to get the full educational experience."
